Maria Dolores Rosales Pacheco, a 31-year-old mother of four, was last seen on July 7, 1996, in Modesto, California. Her disappearance, which authorities suspect involved foul play, remains an unsolved case. Pacheco, also known by her nicknames "Lola" or "Lolita," was described as a woman of regular habits, making her sudden disappearance highly uncharacteristic.
The last day Pacheco was seen, she had visited friends in Ceres, attended church in Modesto, and went to a Wal-Mart. She returned to her Modesto home around 11:00 p.m. and made a phone call. Pacheco had arranged for a friend to give her a wake-up call at 4:00 a.m. the following morning so she could attend to household chores before her 7:00 a.m. shift at the Valley Fresh Inc. plant in Turlock. However, when her friend called, there was no answer. Pacheco never arrived at her job and never collected her last paycheck.
Pacheco had separated from her husband the month prior to her disappearance. Her husband informed police that he had seen her at 6:30 a.m. on July 8 in a parking lot near Crows Landing and Hatch roads in Modesto, where he claimed she gave him their young daughter. This sighting, however, has never been confirmed. A few days before she went missing, Pacheco had opened a new bank account with cash.
Sometime after she was reported missing, Pacheco's red 1987 Hyundai was discovered abandoned in the 2000 block of Seattle Street in Modesto, just a few blocks from where her husband claimed to have last seen her.
