On July 3, 2007, 23-year-old Ronald Michael Osborne was last seen on the Sacramento River in an area known as China Rapids, north of Red Bluff, California. Osborne, who was not wearing a life jacket, was canoeing with a friend, James Derek Vereb, when their canoe overturned. Vereb, who was wearing a life jacket, was swept downstream and later rescued by other boaters.
Vereb reported seeing Osborne in the water, clinging to a life jacket and attempting to swim. However, Vereb lost sight of him in the rapids. An extensive search of the area was conducted by authorities following the incident. Searchers were able to locate the life jacket that Osborne had been holding onto, but they found no trace of him.
Ronald Michael Osborne is described as a white male, with blonde hair and blue eyes, standing at 6'0" and weighing 205 pounds. He was born on December 12, 1983. Despite the search efforts, Osborne has not been seen or heard from since the accident. Authorities presume that he drowned in the Sacramento River. The Tehama Sheriff's Department is the investigating agency for this case.
