In the latter part of 2022, the family of 24-year-old Daniel Arthur Blank grew concerned when his behavior became secretive and distant. During a Thanksgiving visit that year, he was evasive about a new job, citing a nondisclosure agreement, and would quickly shut his laptop if his mother walked by. Shortly after, in late 2022, Daniel ceased all communication, no longer responding to calls or emails and blocking friends on social media. His parents' concern deepened when they learned he had abruptly left his apartment in Ohio without informing his landlord, leaving all his belongings behind. This led them to file a missing person report, and they were able to track his phone to a remote cabin in Vermont. When law enforcement conducted a welfare check, they found Daniel unharmed but unwilling to speak with his family.
The situation took a more complex turn in January 2023, when Daniel was detained by Pennsylvania State Police at a hotel.
He was in the company of two other individuals, Jack 'Ziz' LaSota and Michelle Zajko. Authorities were at the hotel to execute a search warrant related to the unsolved fatal shooting of Zajko's parents, which had occurred less than two weeks prior. Police found Daniel and LaSota hiding in a bathroom with the shower running. While LaSota was arrested on charges of obstruction and disorderly conduct, Daniel was not charged in connection with the hotel incident or the homicide investigation. However, Maryland authorities later noted that he was 'under investigation for a double homicide that occurred in Delaware County, PA.' His parents expressed their belief that their son's involvement with the group might be a result of brainwashing, stating that he is not a violent person. They described him as having mild autism and being nearly blind in one eye.
Daniel's period as a missing person concluded with his arrest in Maryland in February 2025. He, along with LaSota and Zajko, was charged with trespassing and obstruction after a resident reported them for parking box trucks on his property and asking to camp for a month. Following his arrest, Daniel was described as a 'brilliant young man' with significant mental health concerns. He was eventually released on bond after spending over a year in detention and was required to wear an electronic tracking device. The case of Daniel Blank highlights a complicated journey from a concerned family's search for their missing son to his involvement with a group connected to serious criminal investigations. While he was reported missing from Pennsylvania, his travels took him through Ohio, Vermont, and ultimately to his arrest in Maryland, concluding a troubling chapter for him and his family as he is now alive and his case is no longer considered an active missing persons investigation.Last Seen: Dec 15, 2022
