Steven Lee Hixson, 45, was last seen in Trinity County, California on March 1, 2017. On that day, Hixson called the police to his home in Hayfork, initially reporting that he had been struck in the head with a baseball bat inside someone's residence. He later changed his story, claiming he had hit his head in a fall. Responding officers noted bruises on Hixson's head and summoned an ambulance, but he refused medical treatment and transport to the hospital. He has not been heard from since.
Investigators have identified the person who allegedly struck Hixson with the bat, but it is unclear if they are considered a suspect in his disappearance. At the time he went missing, Hixson was known to frequently walk and ride his bicycle over long distances. It is considered a possibility that a head injury may have left him confused, causing him to wander into the wilderness near Hayfork.
Hixson is a white male with black hair and brown eyes. He is 5'8" tall and weighs around 149 pounds. He has a tattoo of a woman's name on his right shoulder and a scar on his abdomen from a splenectomy. His nickname is Steve. The Trinity County Sheriff's Department is investigating his case.
