On August 11, 2006, 42-year-old Scott Edward Hall made his last contact with his family via telephone from his sailboat, the "Jubilee," which was moored at Isthmus Cove on Catalina Island, California. After this call, he was never heard from again. His boat remained docked at the cove and was later found with his cellular phones, identification, and other personal effects still on board. The only notable item missing from his scuba gear was the weight belt.
The vessel itself had a slow leak in one of its bladders. There was a possible, but unconfirmed, sighting of Hall on the Catalina Expressway on August 17, 2006.
The circumstances surrounding Hall's disappearance were unclear for years, and the case remained a perplexing mystery for investigators. The case was handled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. For over a decade, Hall's whereabouts remained unknown, leaving his family and authorities without answers.
A significant development in the case came on August 4, 2021, when kayakers discovered skeletonized human remains on the shore of Santa Catalina Island near Cherry Cove and Two Harbors. This location is approximately one mile from Isthmus Cove where Hall was last seen. In November 2021, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed through dental records that the remains belonged to Scott Edward Hall.
