On July 22, 2009, 20-year-old Nathan Trino Guerra Jr. was last seen in Bakersfield, California. His mother had given him a ride home to his residence on Hayslet Street in the eastern part of the city after he had cashed a check. Guerra has not been seen or heard from since that day. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as a White male, 5'8" tall, weighing approximately 200 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
The circumstances surrounding Guerra's disappearance are considered uncharacteristic of his typical behavior. He left behind all of his personal belongings, including his wallet, clothing, money, and identification. The only items he is believed to have had with him were his cell phone and its charger. It was unusual for Guerra to be out of contact with his family, particularly as he was the father of two young daughters whom he was not expected to abandon.
Family and friends became concerned when they were unable to reach him. After repeated unanswered calls, a missing persons report was filed with the police on Saturday, July 25, 2009. That same evening, a search of his home confirmed that his wallet and other personal items were still there. In the days that followed, his family and friends organized efforts to find him, distributing hundreds of flyers throughout Bakersfield and as far as Fresno. They also contacted local news stations to bring public attention to his case.
At the time he went missing, Guerra was laid off from his job at a plant nursery but was scheduled to return to work in August 2009.
