Mohammad Ala, a 71-year-old former professor and award-winning documentary film producer, was last seen on August 15, 2023. He had been driving home to Laguna Beach from his brother’s house in Long Beach, California. According to reports, Mohammad called his sister at around 4:30 p.m. on August 14, stating that he had gotten lost but was on his way back.
However, after that conversation, he never made it home, and further attempts to reach him by phone were unsuccessful as his cell phone had died.
Authorities later traced his movements through cell tower pings, with his phone last active near Anaheim and Downey. The next morning, at 9:24 a.m. on August 15, a traffic camera captured his gold 2006 Toyota Avalon on Firestone Boulevard near the 605 Freeway, but there were no further sightings after that. Ala, who weighs about 125 pounds, has green eyes, white hair, and was last seen wearing denim pants, a gray shirt, and possibly a straw hat.
Mohammad’s family, deeply concerned for his safety, has noted that he may have been suffering from dementia. Despite their efforts and ongoing investigations, no substantial leads have emerged in the months following his disappearance.
