Antonio Andrade Cruz, an 83-year-old man, was reported missing by his family in San Diego, California, on May 28, 2003. He was last seen between 6:00 and 8:00 a.m. leaving the residence he shared with his girlfriend at 1229 Tenth Avenue. Cruz, who was also known as Tony, was reportedly on his way to a nearby post office at Ninth and E Street to mail some bills and has not been seen or heard from since. At the time of his disappearance, Cruz was having difficulty walking and often relied on a cane or a walker.
Cruz is a Hispanic male with gray hair and gray eyes, standing at 5'7" and weighing 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue plaid shirt, a blue jacket, and black pants. Cruz had contacts in the downtown San Diego area and had previously visited Yuma, Arizona, and Ensenada, Mexico, though there was no indication he planned to travel on the day he disappeared. He is an Army veteran and a former employee of the North Island Naval Air Station. At the time of his disappearance, he was legally married to a woman with Alzheimer's Disease who passed away in 2005, and he had seven children.
Several suspicious circumstances surround Cruz's disappearance. A large sum of money, $25,000 in cash that he kept for emergencies, was discovered missing from a safe in his apartment; the individual who took the money knew the combination. Additionally, a gun he kept under his bed was also missing. Ten days after he vanished, checks totaling $48,000 were cashed from his bank account in Mexico, made out to a non-existent sheet metal company. His bank account had a balance of $48,500 at the time.
Further investigation revealed that someone had changed Cruz's mailing address at the post office to a non-existent address in San Antonio, Texas, which is his birthplace. Surveillance footage from Mexican border crossings showed a person resembling Cruz in the backseat of a car with two men; the same vehicle was later seen returning to the United States without him. His case remains unsolved and is classified as an endangered missing person.
