In the summer of 1993, the life of 36-year-old Debra Jean Vaughan was marked by turmoil. She was in a volatile relationship with her husband, Gerald W. Vaughan, and their time together was reportedly marred by domestic violence. The day before she vanished, the couple had a physical altercation, which prompted Debra to seek refuge at her mother's home.
