On June 16, 2020, 61-year-old Kevin P. Anderson was last seen in the town of Sumner, just outside of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. His disappearance occurred under harrowing circumstances, following a violent incident at a family property. On that day, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a possible burglary at a home on Highway A. Upon arrival, a deputy discovered the bodies of two individuals, later identified as Anderson's sister, 57-year-old Nedra J. Lemke, and her husband, 59-year-old James Lemke, in the driveway. Shortly after, shots were fired from the residence at the deputy, who returned fire. The house then became engulfed in flames and was ultimately a total loss.
Authorities immediately sought Kevin Anderson for questioning in connection with the double homicide and arson. At the time he went missing, he was described as a white male, standing 6 feet tall and weighing approximately 200 pounds, with blue eyes and balding brown hair. Law enforcement officials believe the incident was a targeted act and not random. Prosecutors have since charged Anderson with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide for the deaths of his sister and brother-in-law, as well as attempted homicide for firing at the deputy, and arson. It is believed the motive may have been related to a dispute over an inheritance.
Despite extensive search efforts by law enforcement, including the use of planes, helicopters, and drones, Anderson has not been located, and his remains were not found at the scene of the fire. Investigators believe he fled the area and remains on the run. Anderson is described as an avid hunter and camper, and authorities consider him to be armed and dangerous. The U.S. Marshals Service is involved in the search, and a reward has been offered for information leading to his arrest and conviction. The case has gained national attention, having been profiled on "America's Most Wanted" in an effort to generate new leads.
