On April 28, 2012, 50-year-old Jeffrey Hunt Comer, a resident of Harbour Island in Tampa, Florida, embarked on a stand-up paddleboarding excursion from Fort De Soto Park. Described as an experienced and physically fit outdoor enthusiast, Comer had a background in various sports, including kayaking, cycling, and scuba diving.
