On March 15, 2020, Christopher Carrington, a 34-year-old man from Toledo, Ohio, tragically died from a gunshot wound outside The Antidote after-hours bar located on West Sylvania Avenue. Carrington was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound and was treated at the scene before being transported to St. Vincent's Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Following Carrington's death, Toledo detectives launched a homicide investigation.
The investigation led to the arrest of 15-year-old Tacarie Cunningham, who was indicted on charges of murder and tampering with evidence. Cunningham was found to have been present at the nightclub with adults and firearms, and he was later arrested and charged with the crime. He remains in custody at the Lucas County Juvenile Detention Center.
In June 2021, Cunningham was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years. During the sentencing, Judge Michael Goulding noted that Cunningham had acted like an adult despite his young age and had previously bragged about the shooting online. Cunningham apologized to Carrington's family, expressing hope for their forgiveness, but Carrington's fiancée, Marion Dotson, stated that she has no compassion or forgiveness for him.
Carrington was described as a family man who had made positive strides in his life and had no known enemies. His death left a significant void in the lives of his loved ones, who continue to struggle with the loss.
