On March 4, 2025, a tragic avalanche occurred near Girdwood, Alaska, claiming the lives of three heli-skiers, including 39-year-old David Linder of Florida. Linder, originally from Mankato, Minnesota, was part of a guided backcountry skiing expedition with Chugach Powder Guides in the Chugach Mountains, approximately eight miles northeast of the Girdwood airport.
