On January 7, 2019, 32-year-old Rick Raymond Eastep from Ontario, Canada, was last seen while hiking the Lost Coast Trail near Petrolia, California. He had embarked on the trail on January 3, 2019, with plans to complete his hike by January 8. On January 9, authorities were alerted to his disappearance after a delayed text message from Eastep indicated he had injured his back near Miller Flat and required assistance.
