In the summer of 2024, 40-year-old Paul Anthony Vasquez-Flores embarked on a journey from his home in Stockton, California, to visit family in Moses Lake, Washington. On July 21, 2024, while passing through the small community of Chemult, Oregon, his trip took an unforeseen turn. His vehicle, a 2007 silver Toyota Highlander, reportedly broke down, leaving him stranded. Faced with this challenge, Paul began walking and managed to hitchhike between Crescent and Chemult in search of assistance. He was able to maintain contact with his loved ones until about 1:40 p.m. that day, letting his niece know that someone was going to give him a ride from a local Pilot travel center back to his disabled vehicle. Surveillance footage from the Pilot station captured him at approximately 2:13 p.m. wearing a white t-shirt, red shorts, and black slides, and carrying a white phone charging cord. The footage showed him getting into a white sedan with another man, after which he was never seen or heard from again. Concern grew when Paul’s family could no longer reach him, and on July 23, 2024, they officially reported him missing to the Klamath County Sheriff's Office. A few days later, on the morning of July 26th, family members discovered his Toyota Highlander in the woods off a side road near the Three Rivers OHV staging area, north of Chemult. Investigators found no signs of foul play at the scene of the vehicle. Interestingly, while it was initially thought his vehicle was inoperable, it was later found to be in working condition and was driven back to California by his brother. The area where Paul went missing was experiencing severe wildfires at the time, with heavy smoke and high temperatures potentially complicating his situation. The investigation into Paul's disappearance involves law enforcement from both the Klamath County Sheriff's Office in Oregon and the Stockton Police Department in California. Described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet to 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing between 160 and 220 pounds, Paul has distinctive tattoos, including full sleeves on both arms, chest tattoos, and the word "STOCKTON" tattooed across his abdomen. He has brown hair and brown eyes, and at the time of his disappearance, he had a mustache and goatee and may have been wearing glasses. The last ping from his cell phone was detected in the early morning hours of July 22, 2024, from a wooded area off Highway 97. Despite the efforts of his family and law enforcement, the identity of the man in the white sedan and the circumstances surrounding Paul's vanishing remain a painful mystery. The case continues to be an active investigation, with his family holding onto hope for answers.
