He was last seen on that day at a Chevron gas station in New Waverly while traveling from his job in Cleburne, Texas, to Splendora, Texas, in his red Mitsubishi Mirage. Surveillance footage captured him at the gas station, and his phone records showed he was in the vicinity of State Highway 105 and US 59 in the Cleveland area at around 11 p.m. on the same day.
Since that evening, there has been no further activity on his phone, social media, or debit card, and he has had no contact with his family, which is highly unusual and concerning to those close to him.
Despite ongoing search efforts led by the Liberty County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), there have been no significant new leads regarding Benford's disappearance. At the time he went missing, the region was experiencing severe flooding, raising concerns that his vehicle might have been swept away. However, neither Benford nor his vehicle has been located since he was last seen. Authorities have emphasized the difficulty of conducting searches in such circumstances without more precise information, given the expansive area they are dealing with. Benford was in good health at the time of his disappearance and did not have any known medical conditions that could explain his sudden disappearance.
