In the summer of 2024, concern grew for 43-year-old Shane Thomas Crocker, a male member of the Cherokee Nation, who was last seen in Oktaha, Oklahoma, on July 17, 2024. His family became increasingly worried when he did not make his usual contact. While it was not uncommon for Shane to be out of touch for a few days at a time, this prolonged absence was different, prompting his mother to file a missing person's report with the Muskogee Police Department. At the time of his disappearance, Shane was described as being 5'9" and weighing approximately 190 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. The search for Shane came to a heartbreaking end on August 19, 2024, when his body was discovered in a vacant parking lot near 8th and Broadway in Muskogee. The circumstances surrounding his death were not immediately clear, and the Muskogee Police awaited a report from the medical examiner to release further details. The news was devastating to his family, who remembered him as a man with a kind heart who was also a talented and accomplished artist with a deep appreciation for his Cherokee heritage. He had showcased his artwork at the Muskogee Civic Center and even had a piece selected for display at a local museum. Shane was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, on April 7, 1981, and had attended Muskogee High School. Over the years, he worked in various fields, including as a factory worker, a pipe inspector, and for several lawn care companies, and was also a skilled welder. His family shared that he was a very trusting person who loved to fish, hunt, and travel the country. In the wake of his passing, his family faced the difficult task of arranging his funeral services amidst their grief. The case, which began as a search for a missing person, concluded with the sad discovery of his passing, leaving his loved ones to mourn the loss of a son, brother, and creative soul.
