Virginia Uden, 32 years old at the time of her disappearance, was last seen on September 12, 1980, in Riverton, Wyoming. She, along with her two sons, Richard and Reagan, was driving a 1973 Ford station wagon borrowed from her mother. Virginia was en route to meet her ex-husband, Gerald Uden, who had arranged to take the boys bird hunting. However, the family never arrived at their destination, and they were never seen alive again.
On October 4, 1980, their abandoned and vandalized station wagon was discovered near the Wind River Canyon. The vehicle appeared to have been pushed toward the canyon but became lodged on some rocks, and it had been concealed with pine branches. Inside the car, large amounts of Virginia's blood were found, indicating foul play.
The case went cold for decades until 2013, when Gerald Uden confessed to murdering Virginia and her two sons. He revealed that he had shot all three with a .22-caliber rifle, dumping their bodies into Fremont Lake in barrels. Gerald showed no remorse for the murders, claiming they were premeditated, and he was sentenced to life in prison. Despite searches, the bodies have never been recovered from the lake.
