On the morning of January 30, 1992, Steven George Alyea, a 30-year-old male, left his Kansas City, Missouri, home and vanished. He was last seen at approximately 8:30 a.m. preparing for a trip. Steven had informed a neighbor of his plans to drive to Lamar, Missouri, for a meeting scheduled around 1:30 p.m., mentioning he would return home by 6:30 that same evening. He was known to be carrying a large amount of cash at the time of his departure.
A man who kept in regular contact with his family, his failure to come home as planned was the first indication that something was terribly wrong.
The circumstances of Steven's disappearance were immediately alarming to those who knew him. He suffered from a severe heart condition that necessitated daily medication, and he also used a heart monitor and had an internal pacemaker from two prior heart surgeries. In a deeply concerning sign that his trip was not expected to be a long one, he left his essential medication and other personal items at his residence.
