Ronald Reed Duck Jr., a 21-year-old U.S. Navy sailor, was last seen on February 14, 1995, near the Naval Station in Pascagoula, Mississippi. On the night of February 13, 1995, Duck had been playing pool and drinking beer at a club in Ocean Springs before heading back to his ship, the USS Stephen W. Groves. Around 3:30 a.m., about fifty yards from his ship, Duck disappeared and has not been seen or heard from since. His maroon truck was later found in a port parking lot, with its floor muddy, adding to the mystery of his disappearance.
At the time of his disappearance, Duck was serving as an Electronics Technician Third Class. He was reportedly concerned for his safety, as he had recently testified against a fellow sailor involved in drug use, and had received threats afterward. His case was initially treated as an AWOL incident by the Navy, but it was soon reclassified as a missing person case due to the suspicious circumstances. He left behind a pregnant wife, who gave birth to their daughter six weeks later.
Despite numerous searches and investigations by both the Navy and local authorities, no significant leads have emerged in the decades since. His family, particularly his mother, believes that foul play was involved. Duck’s case remains unsolved, and it continues to be an open missing person investigation.
