Darlene Marie Trujillo, 20 years old at the time of her disappearance, was last seen on July 4, 2001, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. That day, she dropped her young son off at his grandmother's house near 11th Street and NW Headingly Avenue, telling her she would be taking a two-day trip to Arizona. Darlene was reportedly accompanied by a Hispanic man identified only as "Jorge." However, she never returned from her trip, and her family reported her missing a week later.
Several weeks after her disappearance, Jorge returned to Albuquerque alone and told Darlene's aunt that they had actually traveled to Tucumcari, New Mexico, instead of Arizona. He claimed that after an argument, Darlene left in their vehicle, and he had not seen her since. Authorities have been unable to locate Jorge, who remains a person of interest in the case. Darlene’s loved ones believe it is out of character for her to abandon her child, and foul play is suspected.
