Marilyn "Niqui" McCown, 28, was last seen on July 22, 2001, at a laundromat in Richmond, Indiana. She had dropped off her 9-year-old daughter at her mother’s house before going to do laundry. After returning to her mother's house to mention that she had been harassed by two men at the laundromat, Niqui went back to retrieve her clothes but was never seen again. Her family reported her missing later that day.
Her disappearance raised suspicions, particularly surrounding her fiancé, Robert Webster. Just days after she vanished, Webster canceled their upcoming wedding, demanded a refund from the reception hall, and tried to return their wedding rings. Although he failed a polygraph test, police did not find concrete evidence implicating him in her disappearance. The car Niqui had been driving, a 1990 GMC Jimmy, was found months later in Dayton, Ohio, at an apartment complex where her ex-boyfriend lived. The vehicle had been tampered with, and her laundry was still inside, but there were no signs of a struggle.
Another person of interest was Tommy Swint, a coworker of Niqui's from her time working at a prison. Swint had been linked to another murder case and was considered a suspect in Niqui’s disappearance. In 2010, as police prepared to arrest him for the unrelated murder of Tina Marie Ivery, Swint took his own life. His death left many questions unanswered, and Niqui's case remains unsolved, with authorities continuing to suspect foul play.
