Amy was last seen leaving her job at the Lahey Clinic, where she worked in the finance department. In the days leading up to her disappearance, she called in sick and did not return to work. Her husband, Robert Desmond, later contacted her employer, stating that Amy would not be returning to work and even sent a resignation email in her name. However, coworkers were alarmed, as the signature did not seem to match Amy’s handwriting, and they had observed signs of physical abuse, such as limping and missing clumps of hair.
Amy's family, who had been estranged from her for years due to her abusive relationship with Desmond, did not initially realize she was missing.
