She was attending a party at an apartment complex on Grand Avenue between 11:45 p.m. and 1:45 a.m. It is believed she left through an alley door, but no one witnessed her exit. She has not been heard from since that night.
At the time of her disappearance, Melissa, known as "Missy," was struggling with personal issues, including involvement with drugs and prostitution,
but her family insists she would not have abandoned her children. She had previously lived in both Abel, Iowa, and Orlando, Florida. Although her lifestyle might have put her at risk, no solid leads have surfaced, and her disappearance remains a mystery. Melissa's case is considered endangered, and her family has continued to seek answers for over two decades.
