Karen Sue Hurst, aged 43, was last seen on August 6, 2003, around 1:20 a.m. in the vicinity of North 7th Street in Kansas City, Kansas. She had been released from jail on a drug charge shortly before her disappearance. After her release, she left a gift at her mother's home and called to inform her about it. That phone call was the last time Karen was heard from.
Her family initially thought she might have entered a rehabilitation program, but after 30 days without any contact, they reported her missing.
At the time of her disappearance, Karen was involved with drugs and prostitution, and was known to associate with a drug dealer in Wichita. This individual denied any knowledge of her whereabouts. On August 25, 2004, more than a year after she vanished, Karen’s identification was found in a mailbox several miles away from her last known location. Foul play is suspected in her case, which remains unsolved, and she has not been seen or heard from since.
Karen has distinct physical characteristics, including tattoos of a peacock on her left calf, a butterfly or rose on her left shoulder, and a Cesarean scar on her abdomen. She was also missing all of her teeth and had a metal pin in one of her toes. Despite multiple investigations, no significant leads have emerged regarding her disappearance.
