Jeremy Alex, a 28-year-old man, went missing on April 24, 2004, under suspicious and puzzling circumstances in Northport, Maine. Jeremy, who was living in Lincolnville at the time, was in the process of moving to a new home with his girlfriend. On the day of his disappearance, he exhibited paranoid and erratic behavior, claiming that "bad guys" were after him.
According to witnesses, he was last seen running through the woods near Pound Hill Road, where he appeared highly disoriented and frightened. His actions that day, including running away from people offering help, suggested he may have been experiencing hallucinations or delusions, potentially exacerbated by drug use earlier that day, as confirmed by his girlfriend.
Jeremy’s van was found abandoned the next day in a parking lot near the Waldo County Humane Society, with his keys and cell phone left inside. Extensive searches of the area, involving K-9 units and law enforcement, yielded no significant clues. Over the following months, there were scattered sightings of someone matching Jeremy's description, but none of these sightings led to a conclusive discovery. Four years later, his driver’s license was found washed ashore near a home that was being built close to where Jeremy was last seen, yet this too did not provide new leads.
Jeremy had struggled with substance abuse, and it is believed that the combination of drugs and his disoriented state may have contributed to his disappearance. Despite numerous searches and investigations, including air and land searches over several months, no trace of him has ever been found. His family has since established the Jeremy Alex Fund to help at-risk youth, a legacy intended to prevent similar tragedies by raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
