In the early morning of June 5, 2004, 21-year-old Domingo Raul Ramirez, also known as Mingo, left his home on Junction Avenue in Cave Junction, Oregon. He was embarking on what was supposed to be a day trip for a camping vacation at Kelly Lake, located just across the California border in the Siskiyou Mountains. Accompanying him on this trip was his cherished three-year-old pit bull, Kandi. Domingo was driving his dark green 1997 Oldsmobile Bravada SUV with Oregon license plate VHW 491. When he didn't return as expected, his family grew concerned and initiated a search, but Domingo was nowhere to be found, and he has not been heard from since. A week after Domingo's departure, a grim discovery was made at Page Mountain Park. Domingo's beloved dog, Kandi, was found alive but had been shot twice in the head with a .22 caliber firearm and had also sustained injuries to her leg and paw. Miraculously, she survived her injuries. Alongside Kandi, some of Domingo's personal possessions were also recovered, but there was no trace of Domingo himself. Further adding to the mystery, his .22 caliber Beretta was missing. The investigation took another turn in July 2004 when Domingo's Oldsmobile Bravada was located in Klamath Falls, Oregon. The man found driving the vehicle, Juan Miguel Ramon Soto, was arrested. Authorities have publicly identified two persons of interest in connection with Domingo's disappearance: Jose Luis Villegas-Cavada and Joel Brian Rico-Orozco. Both men were known to be in the Happy Camp, California area around the time Domingo went missing and were reportedly driving a white 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with Oregon license plates. Investigators have pursued leads in the case, and in 2006, they announced the discovery of evidence in a foreign country, leading them to believe that Domingo may have been the victim of a kidnapping and murder that likely occurred in California. Some items related to his case were also found on Native American reservation land in northern California. Despite numerous searches by family, friends, and law enforcement from both Oregon and California, and a $10,000 reward offered by his family for his return, Domingo Raul Ramirez's case remains an unsolved and heart-wrenching mystery.
