April Beth Pitzer, a 30-year-old woman, was last seen on June 28, 2004, in Newberry Springs, California. After a period of instability, including homelessness and untreated bipolar disorder, she had planned to travel back to her home state of Arkansas to reunite with her family. An acquaintance claimed to have dropped her off at a bus station, but April never made it to her destination.
Her disappearance has been surrounded by troubling rumors. Some reports suggested she may have been murdered and her body disposed of in a mine shaft. Searches of various mines in the Mojave Desert led to the discovery of her personal belongings scattered across a wide area, including clothes and a suitcase. Some of her belongings were found under disturbing circumstances—a nightgown tied in a hangman’s noose and bloodstained items were located in an abandoned mining shack.
April's past as a confidential informant in a drug case in Arkansas has also been a point of concern, with speculation that her disappearance could have been linked to retaliation. Despite extensive searches and investigations, her body has never been found, and in 2012, she was declared legally dead. Her case remains open, and authorities continue to seek information.
