Sheryl Rucci, a 33-year-old woman from Lockport, New York, was last seen at her apartment on August 9, 2005. Her disappearance is surrounded by suspicious circumstances, as she was set to testify against her ex-boyfriend, Roger Hueber, in a child sex abuse case. Sheryl left her apartment around 9:00 p.m., and despite her belongings being found inside, only her keys were missing. Her scent was traced by bloodhounds to a nearby Skateland before the trail was lost.
Initially, authorities thought Sheryl may have gone into hiding to avoid testifying, especially since she was indicted as a co-defendant in the same case just weeks after her disappearance. However, as time passed without any contact from her, including with her young daughter, foul play became strongly suspected. Hueber eventually pled guilty to lesser charges, but Sheryl's whereabouts remain unknown, and her case is still classified as unsolved.
