That night, he left his girlfriend’s home in Chelsea around 1:30 a.m., and his car was heard arriving at his parents' house in Middleton around 2:00 a.m. However, no one actually saw him enter the home. Later that morning, his parents discovered something unusual: his wallet, keys, and cigarettes were left on his bed, his sneakers were inside the house, and the bedroom window
screen had been pushed out from the inside. The scene suggested that he may have left through the window, rather than using the door which would have triggered the motion detector lights outside.
Despite extensive searches in the local area, no trace of John has been found since that night. Investigators, including the FBI, suspect foul play may be involved, though the exact circumstances remain unclear.
