Walter F. Smith Jr., also known as "Tom," was last seen on September 3, 2006, in his rural mobile home community on Delchar Drive in Edinburgh, Indiana. At the time of his disappearance, Walter, 42 years old, was in the process of opening a new restaurant, Walter's Family Restaurant, scheduled to open just two days later. His black 2000 Daewoo Laganza was found abandoned about two months later on the north side of Franklin, Indiana, although Walter had no known connections to that area.
