Walter F. Smith Jr., also known as "Tom," was last seen on September 3, 2006, in his rural mobile home community on Delchar Drive in Edinburgh, Indiana. At the time of his disappearance, Walter, 42 years old, was in the process of opening a new restaurant, Walter's Family Restaurant, scheduled to open just two days later. His black 2000 Daewoo Laganza was found abandoned about two months later on the north side of Franklin, Indiana, although Walter had no known connections to
that area.
Walter was described as 5'11", weighing between 165 and 200 pounds, with brown, thinning hair and brown eyes. He had several distinctive features, including surgical scars on his knee, acne scars, and a chipped front tooth. He also suffered from a heart condition and was prone to strokes and seizures, adding to concerns about his safety. Authorities believe foul play may have been involved, particularly since Walter had recently inherited money before his disappearance.
