In early 1977, a 17-year-old male named Jay Calvin Pringle from Medford, Oregon, embarked on a trip to California with an acquaintance. The exact date of his departure is unclear, but he was last seen on April 19, 1977. Jay, a white male with brown hair and brown eyes, stood at 5'10" and weighed around 150 pounds. He was myopic and wore gold wire-rimmed glasses. Distinctive features included scars on his knees from a car accident, as well as scars on his left elbow, above his left eye, and on his left calf. At the time of his disappearance, he was reportedly wearing an army jacket, pants, and a blue bandana around his head. He was also carrying a suitcase and a brown and green wool blanket. Jay's journey took him to Los Angeles, where he was seen by some friends. He then traveled to Gardena, California, with a 23-year-old friend named Robert Harry Kellogg. According to Kellogg's account, he and Jay had an argument and parted ways in Gardena. Kellogg claimed that Jay left with an unknown individual and was never seen again. Following their separation, Kellogg traveled to Las Vegas and reportedly spent all of Jay's money before returning to Medford. Jay's mother, concerned about her son's whereabouts, reported him missing. The investigation into Jay Pringle's disappearance focused on Robert Kellogg, who was the last known person to see him. Authorities in Jackson County, Oregon, believe Kellogg was involved in his friend's disappearance, but a lack of evidence prevented them from ever pressing charges. Kellogg maintained his innocence throughout his life and passed away in September 2011 at the age of 58. The case has remained cold for decades, with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office providing very little information to the public over the years. This overview encapsulates the known details of the case, from Jay's last known movements to the subsequent investigation that has unfortunately yielded no definitive answers about his fate. The disappearance of Jay Calvin Pringle remains an unsolved and heart-wrenching mystery.
