Richard Uden, an 11-year-old boy, was last seen on September 12, 1980, in Riverton, Wyoming, along with his mother, Virginia Uden, and his younger brother, Reagan. The family left that day to meet Virginia’s ex-husband, Gerald Uden, for a hunting trip. They were reportedly traveling in a 1973 Ford station wagon, but none of them were ever seen alive again.
The family’s abandoned vehicle was discovered on October 4, 1980, near the Wind River Canyon, covered with pine branches in an apparent attempt to conceal it. Blood found in the car raised immediate concerns about their safety.
For decades, the case remained unsolved until 2013, when Gerald Uden confessed to murdering Virginia, Richard, and Reagan. He admitted to shooting them with a .22 caliber rifle, disposing of their bodies in barrels, and dumping the barrels into Fremont Lake. Despite extensive search efforts, the bodies of Richard, his mother, and his brother have never been recovered. Gerald Uden was sentenced to life in prison for the murders, and he expressed no remorse for his actions.
