In the late summer of 1982, the life of 21-year-old Janet Landry Brice took a turn from which it would never return. On August 15th, Janet, who worked as a barmaid, was enjoying a night out with friends at a bar on Florida Boulevard in East Baton Rouge, Louisiana. During the evening, she encountered a man she introduced to her friends as an old school acquaintance named "Randy". As the night wound down, Janet offered to give this man a ride home. She first drove a friend to her apartment, dropping her off safely, before continuing on with the man in the direction of the Cedarcrest area. This was the last time anyone is known to have seen Janet. A friend who had gone to Janet's home to wait for her found that she never arrived. At the time of her disappearance, Janet was married, and her husband was away working offshore. The days turned into weeks with no word from Janet, and concern grew into a full-scale investigation. A significant break in the case seemed to come a few weeks later when Janet's vehicle, a 1973 tan and brown Ford Galaxie 500, was discovered. The car was located near Belaire High School in Baton Rouge. Disturbingly, the keys had been left in the vehicle, and it appeared that various people in the neighborhood had been driving it. A thorough search of the car yielded no clues as to Janet's whereabouts and provided no evidence of what might have happened to her. The man she was last seen with, the individual she called "Randy," has never been identified. The disappearance of Janet Landry Brice remains an unsolved case that has left her family and community searching for answers for decades. Foul play is suspected in her case, which is classified as an endangered missing person. At the time she went missing, Janet was described as a white female with light brown hair and blue eyes, standing 5'7" and weighing 110 pounds. She had a few distinguishing marks, including a tattoo of a flower between her thumb and index finger, a scar in the center of her forehead, a lump on her chin, and a scar on one of her knees. She was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with gray sleeves and black stripes that had "Alaska" printed on the front, along with blue jeans. The mysterious circumstances of her disappearance, particularly the unidentified man she was with and the subsequent discovery of her abandoned car, have created a perplexing and heartbreaking mystery. The case continues to be an active investigation with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, a silent testament to a young woman who vanished without a trace.
