On the night before his disappearance, Stuart and his brother hosted a party at their home on Edgewater Drive in Orlando. Later that night, Stuart got dressed and left the party to visit the Fairbanks Inn, a bar in Winter Park. He was familiar with the bar but had never gone there alone before.
At around 1:30 a.m., Stuart called his roommate, saying he was with a woman and her husband, and cryptically added, "If you don't hear from me, worry about me." He bought a six-pack of beer at the bar and left on foot. This was the last time anyone heard from him. Despite interviews with the people he was with that night, no solid leads emerged.
Stuart grew up in a difficult environment, having lost his father shortly after birth and being raised in poverty.
