In the Sunnyslope area of Phoenix, Arizona, on May 26, 1992, 13-year-old Brandy Myers vanished while going door-to-door for a school fundraiser. She and a friend were collecting donations for Sunnyslope Elementary School's Read-a-Thon. At approximately 8:00 p.m., her friend went into a grocery store, and when she returned, Brandy was gone. Brandy was last seen on the corner of 10th and Hatcher Streets. She was wearing a green t-shirt, a denim skirt, and white and pink "Pro King" high-top sneakers. Brandy was also wearing pink and yellow prescription glasses and had scars on her cheek and upper left knee. The search for Brandy began immediately, with community members and police scouring the neighborhood. Tragically, the day after she disappeared, the body of another young girl, 16-year-old Shannon Aumock, was discovered in the Central Arizona Project Canal. Due to the similarities in their age and physical description, and the proximity of where Shannon was found to Brandy's neighborhood, authorities initially considered a connection. However, it would be nearly two decades before Shannon's remains were identified in 2011. In the years following Brandy's disappearance, her case grew cold, leaving her family with unanswered questions and a void that could not be filled. A significant development in the case came years later with the investigation of Bryan Patrick Miller, who became known as the "Canal Killer" for the murders of two other women, Angela Brosso and Melanie Bernas, in the early 1990s. Miller lived just a few doors down from where Brandy was last seen. His ex-wife later came forward with a chilling revelation, stating that Miller had confessed to her that he had murdered and dismembered a young girl who had knocked on his door for a fundraiser, a description that fit Brandy's situation. Despite this and other circumstantial evidence, prosecutors declined to charge Miller in Brandy's case, citing a lack of sufficient evidence to secure a conviction. Miller was ultimately convicted and sentenced to death for the murders of Brosso and Bernas. The investigation into Brandy's disappearance remains open, and though foul play is suspected, her body has never been found, leaving her case an unsolved and heartbreaking mystery.
