In the small town of Wisner, Louisiana, the disappearance of 20-year-old Tonya Michelle Herrington in the summer of 1996 left a void in the community and a lasting ache in the hearts of her loved ones. On the evening of June 7, 1996, Tonya, who was five months pregnant, was last seen by a witness in the parking lot of a local bar called Sweet's around 10:30 p.m., where she was chatting with friends. This ordinary evening would become the starting point of a mystery that has endured for decades. Concern grew when Tonya failed to show up for her job at her mother's store the following day. The discovery of her champagne-colored 1987 Oldsmobile three days later, parked and locked behind a garage next to the bar, only deepened the sense of alarm. Crucially, her keys and purse were missing from the vehicle. The investigation into Tonya's whereabouts began, revealing unsettling details. A visit to her mobile home by her mother found the lights still on. A stack of rented movies sat on the floor, and perhaps most tellingly, the prenatal vitamins she was diligently taking for her pregnancy were left behind. It appeared as though she had intended to return. Further investigation showed that no clothing or other personal belongings seemed to be missing from her home. Tonya had no credit cards and was not believed to have had any cash with her, making the idea of a voluntary departure unlikely. At the time of her disappearance, she was described as a white female with strawberry blonde hair and green eyes, standing at 5'7" and weighing around 130 pounds. She had several distinguishing marks, including a prominent scar on the inside of her right thigh, a scar on her cheek, and a mole on her neck. She was last seen wearing a t-shirt and shorts and was known to wear a panda coin ring, a Wisner High School ring, and an engagement ring. The circumstances surrounding Tonya Herrington's case have left her family and investigators with more questions than answers. The Tensas Parish Sheriff reported that she may have been seen at another bar in the western part of the parish on the night she vanished. Despite the passage of time, the Franklin Parish Sheriff's Office continues to list her as a missing person. The lack of concrete evidence or significant leads has made this a challenging and frustrating case for all involved. The official narrative remains that she was last seen in Wisner, but the events that transpired after she was spotted in the bar parking lot are unknown. Her family continues to hope for answers, clinging to the memory of a young woman on the cusp of motherhood whose life took an unforeseen and tragic turn.
