In the spring of 1998, an 83-year-old woman named Pearl A. Allen was living a quiet, rural life near the small town of Tullos, Louisiana. On April 13th of that year, a postal carrier saw her near her home, which would be the last time she was ever seen. At the time of her disappearance, Pearl was described as a white female, standing 5'2" and weighing around 120 pounds, with gray hair and hazel eyes. She was reportedly wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans on the day she went missing. Pearl was known by her loved ones as an outdoorsy person who felt at home in nature; she often enjoyed walking through the thickets and swamps surrounding her property and was said to not be afraid of wild animals. Compounding the concern for her welfare, she had been exhibiting symptoms consistent with Alzheimer's Disease, although she had never been formally diagnosed with the condition. Pearl’s disappearance was particularly distressing because, while she had a history of wandering away from her residence, she had never been gone overnight before. Her family, accustomed to her short excursions, grew deeply worried when she did not return. This led to a significant search effort coordinated by the Winn Parish Sheriff's Office. For two to three weeks, officials scoured the dense wooded areas around her home, a terrain she knew well. The search was extensive, employing helicopters for an aerial view, as well as bloodhounds and cadaver dogs on the ground in an attempt to pick up her trail. Despite these exhaustive efforts by law enforcement, no trace of Pearl Allen was ever found. The years have passed since Pearl Allen vanished, leaving her family with unanswered questions. At the time she went missing, she was divorced, a mother to one son, and one of twelve children. Her case is classified as an endangered missing person, and it remains an unsolved case with the Winn Parish Sheriff's Office. The official investigation has not pointed towards any foul play being involved in her disappearance. The prevailing belief is that due to her potential cognitive condition and her habit of walking in the nearby wilderness, she may have wandered off and become lost or succumbed to the elements. The overview of the case is that of a vulnerable, elderly woman who disappeared from the vicinity of her rural Louisiana home. Despite an immediate and thorough search of the surrounding swamps and thickets, her whereabouts remain a mystery to this day.
