Garfield James Meekins, an 80-year-old man from Baltimore, Maryland, was last seen on September 6, 1999. Meekins, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease and had a heart condition, left his home in the 800 block of Cooks Lane around 4:00 p.m. that day, intending to go to a nearby store. He never returned. He was driving a gold 1993 Honda Accord at the time of his disappearance.
The following day, on September 7, 1999, his car was discovered abandoned in a farmer's front yard off Fort Davis Road in Warren Township, Pennsylvania, approximately 85 miles from his home in Baltimore. Despite extensive searches, there was no sign of Meekins at the scene or elsewhere. Authorities remain uncertain why he ended up in Pennsylvania. His case has remained unsolved, and he is presumed dead.
