Travis Lamont Lynch, a 22-year-old from Wilson, North Carolina, disappeared in the early hours of December 25, 2003, after leaving his girlfriend's house in Middlesex. Travis had spent Christmas Eve at a friend's gathering, where he had been drinking. He went with his girlfriend, Carlisha Whitley, to her home to sober up, leaving around 1:00 a.m. to drive back to his residence in Wilson.
