Stacey Lynn Hazelton, a 21-year-old woman, was last seen on May 21, 2004, in Alligator, Mississippi. Originally from Pennsylvania, she had moved to Mississippi earlier that year with her boyfriend, James Arthur Fanning Jr. Despite the move, she stayed in close contact with her family, regularly calling them. However, her relationship with Fanning became increasingly volatile. He was abusive and would sometimes lock Hazelton in their room.
Shortly before her disappearance, Hazelton had contacted her family, asking for money to leave Fanning and return to Pennsylvania. Although they sent her the money, she never made it back home, and contact ceased.
Months later, Hazelton was reported missing by her family in December 2004. Fanning was eventually arrested and convicted of her murder in 2006, based on testimony from a witness who claimed to have seen Fanning shoot her during an argument. After her death, Fanning and an accomplice reportedly disposed of her body by burning it and burying the remains near a creek in Duncan, Mississippi. Despite multiple searches, her remains have never been found.
