Luis Rodriguez-Hernandez, a 41-year-old man from Jerome, Idaho, was last seen on July 4, 2005. He left his home for work at the Bettencourt Dairy that morning, but his employer reported that he never arrived for his shift. Despite being seen leaving his workplace at 4:30 p.m., the time he would usually finish work, he was never heard from again. This disappearance was out of character, as he was known to be reliable.

Two weeks later, his two-tone blue 1987 GMC pickup truck was found abandoned in a Walmart parking lot in Las Vegas, Nevada. The vehicle had been wiped clean of fingerprints, and all of Rodriguez-Hernandez's belongings, including coins, tools, and other personal items, were missing. Disturbingly, there were rumors that a coworker had allegedly shot him, wrapped his body in a carpet, and transported it in the back of his own truck. While this account has never been confirmed, authorities issued a death certificate citing a gunshot wound to the head as the cause of death, although his body has never been found.
