Bryant Scott Grund, a 31-year-old man from Jacksonville, Florida, was tragically murdered on October 6, 2023. At the time of his death, Grund was working as an Uber driver to support his family, which included his mother, Heidi Doyle, and his two younger siblings. He had recently switched from being a truck driver to an Uber driver so he could be closer to his family, who were temporarily residing in Jacksonville and planning to move to Georgia soon.
The incident occurred around 11:45 PM on October 6, 2023, when Jacksonville police responded to reports of gunfire at the 7400 block of Kylan Drive West on the Northside of Jacksonville. Upon arrival, they found two victims: Bryant Grund, who was in the front seat of the vehicle, and 19-year-old Antonio Tillie Jr., who was in the backseat. Both victims had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that the shooting was part of an alleged gang-related contract hit targeting Antonio Tillie Jr. Tillie was meeting someone for a date when he was shot, and the phone number he was contacting was registered to Diamond Harris, the girlfriend of one of the suspects. Harris admitted to speaking and texting with Tillie but denied giving him the location at the time of his killing. However, text messages between Harris and her boyfriend, Ju’Quan Mills, indicated otherwise, showing that Harris had asked Mills what to say to lure Tillie to her location.
Ju’Quan Mills, 22, was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder. His girlfriend, Diamond Harris, 23, was arrested for accessory after the fact. A third suspect, who remains at large, is also implicated in the crime. According to the investigation, Mills and the other shooter were each paid $10,000 for the contract killing, with Mills stating that Tillie "had $20,000 dollars on his head," which is street language for a contract hit.
Bryant Grund's family has been significantly affected by his death, as he was the sole provider for his mother and two younger siblings. A fundraiser was set up to help the family with food and shelter, as they were living in an extended-stay hotel and struggling financially following the tragedy. Grund's mother described him as a good man with a great heart who always tried to provide for his family, and she expressed her grief and sympathy for the Tillie family as well.
