Brandon Swanson, a 19-year-old from Marshall, Minnesota, vanished on May 14, 2008, under puzzling circumstances. On the night of his disappearance, Brandon was driving home after celebrating the end of the school year with friends. At around 1:15 a.m., his car ran into a ditch near the small town of Lynd, Minnesota. After unsuccessfully trying to free the vehicle, Brandon called his parents, explaining he was near Lynd and needed a ride home. His parents drove out to find him but were unable to locate him despite staying on the phone with him for nearly 45 minutes.
During the call, Brandon described seeing lights from a nearby town and decided to walk toward them while continuing to guide his parents. Suddenly, the call abruptly ended with Brandon exclaiming, “Oh, shit!” This was the last time anyone heard from him. Extensive searches were conducted around the area where Brandon's phone last pinged, but no significant clues emerged. His car was eventually found 25 miles away from where he thought he was, near Taunton, Minnesota, indicating he was disoriented at the time of the call.
Despite massive search efforts involving law enforcement, volunteers, and cadaver dogs, Brandon’s body has never been found. His case remains unsolved, with theories ranging from an accidental fall into a nearby river to foul play. Brandon’s family has since advocated for “Brandon’s Law,” a Minnesota state law passed in 2009 that requires authorities to take missing adult cases more seriously, ensuring immediate action in such cases.
