Kevin Jay Ayotte, a 3-year-old boy, disappeared on September 30, 1982, from his family's summer home in Sugarbush Township, Minnesota, near Bemidji. Kevin, who was developmentally disabled and partially deaf, had limited speech skills. On the day he vanished, he was playing upstairs with his brother while their mother briefly went outside. When she returned, Kevin and the family's puppy, a Springer Spaniel named Flash, were both missing, although his brother remained inside.
