Michael Alexander Reyes, born in April 2008, was just four months old when he was allegedly abducted by his non-custodial mother, Maria Belen Francesconi, on August 31, 2008. At the time, Francesconi had permission to take Michael from their home in Miami, Florida, to visit family in Argentina. However, she never returned to the U.S., violating the agreement made with Michael's father, Miguel Reyes.
This led to an international parental kidnapping case, and a federal warrant for Francesconi's arrest was issued in 2013.
Michael's father has fought for his return under the Hague Convention, an international treaty designed to protect against child abductions. While courts in both Argentina and the U.S. have ordered Michael's return to the United States, these rulings have yet to be enforced, and Michael remains in Argentina with his mother. Francesconi is thought to have ties to Argentina, Italy, and possibly other South American countries.
