Investigators have linked Thomas's case to the notorious serial killer Mack Ray Edwards, who confessed to multiple murders of children during the late 1950s and early 1970s. Edwards was known to have operated in the same areas where Thomas was last seen. In a confession letter to his wife, he indicated involvement in Thomas's abduction and murder. Despite Edwards leading police to several locations where he claimed to have buried victims, no evidence related to Thomas's disappearance was ever found. Edwards ultimately died by suicide in prison in 1971.
The case of Thomas Bowman remains classified as endangered missing, and it has been reopened as authorities continue to seek closure for the families affected.
