A tough and fun-loving man from South Philadelphia, Edward A. Decker Jr., passed away peacefully at the age of 72 on the evening of Friday, May 13, 2016. Known to friends and family as 'Butch,' 'Eddie,' or 'Ed,' he had been battling medical issues for some time before his passing. He lived his life to the fullest, known for his witty and biting humor that brought laughter to those around him.
Decker had a great love for travel and sports, with a particular passion for the sea and
boating. He was an avid golfer and a skilled pool player, earning him the nickname 'fast Eddie.' His life was a testament to his vibrant personality and his enjoyment of the simple pleasures, from a good game to the open water. His departure was not seen as a moment for sadness by those who knew him, but rather as a time to celebrate the full life he had led.
In accordance with his wishes, Ed was cremated. A memorial service was held at the Baldi Funeral Home on Broad and Reed Streets in South Philadelphia on the evening of Wednesday, May 18, 2016. Family and friends were welcomed to attend and share stories to honor his memory. His ashes were to be released at a later date in Wildwood, New Jersey, one of his favorite places, in a final tribute to his love for the sea. He was a devoted son, a loving father to four children, a grandfather to nine, and a great-grandfather to seven.
