Bruce Kremen, a six-year-old boy, went missing on July 12, 1960, while on a camping trip with the YMCA at Buckhorn Flat in the Angeles National Forest, California. Bruce was last seen playing with two other children near the campsite, about 300 yards away. When he became separated from the group, a search was initiated shortly after he was noticed missing. Despite extensive search efforts in the rugged terrain, which included cliffs and chasms, no trace of Bruce was ever found.
Initially, authorities believed Bruce may have become lost or injured in the forest. However, as the investigation continued, suspicion grew that Bruce's disappearance was not accidental. In later years, notorious serial killer Mack Ray Edwards became a prime suspect in Bruce's case. Edwards, who confessed to the murders of several children in California during the 1950s and 1960s, is believed to have been responsible for Bruce’s abduction. Edwards, a construction worker, claimed to have buried some of his victims under California highways he helped build. Though authorities reopened Bruce’s case in 2007, and even searched areas connected to Edwards, no remains have been found. Foul play is strongly suspected due to Edwards' history of targeting young children.
