Lynne Schulze, an 18-year-old freshman at Middlebury College, was last seen on December 10, 1971, in Middlebury, Vermont. On the day she disappeared, she had plans to take a final exam but told her friends she had forgotten her favorite pen and needed to return to her dorm. She never made it to the exam. Later that afternoon, she was seen standing on Court Street near a health food store called "All the Good Things." That was the last confirmed sighting of her.
Lynne left behind her personal belongings, including her wallet and identification, and only carried about $30 in cash at the time. Her family and friends reported that while Lynne had mentioned thoughts of starting a new life, she had registered for spring classes and did not seem distressed enough to vanish on her own. Although early reports suggested Lynne might have been hitchhiking, these were later discredited, and her disappearance is considered suspicious.
In 2015, a potential connection between Lynne's case and real estate heir Robert Durst came to light, as he owned the health food store she visited on the day she disappeared. However, no conclusive evidence has linked Durst to the case, and Lynne's disappearance remains unsolved. Her family continues to seek closure, holding out hope for new leads.
